Worried You Left the Oven on? You Probably Did, and Now It’s on Fire

You’ve left home for the day, maybe you’re at work, seeing a friend, or out to eat. You might even be on vacation. And then it hits you. You think you left the oven on.

This is a terrible feeling that can ruin even the most perfect day. You keep going back and forth, debating whether or not you turned it off. Well guess what? You didn’t. That oven is burning at a crisp 425°, and there’s no one there to stop it.

So what are you going to do? You could drive back home and turn it off, but then your whole day is fucked. Your friends are going to be mad that you cancelled the plans. The restaurant probably won’t even give you a to go box.

Or you could just leave it and hope that nothing happens. Deal with it when you get home. But then you’re thinking about it all day. You can’t focus on anything because you’re visualizing a massive fire engulfing your home, all your belongings, and your poor upstairs neighbor.

Wow. You really screwed this one up.

So you decide to make the safe choice, and you go back home to turn it off. You open the door expecting to be choked by the smoke of your burning home, but much to your surprise, everything is fine. You walk over to the oven, and it’s literally not even on.

In fact, you never even turned it on to begin with. You had cereal for breakfast and a banana before you left. You barely even stepped foot in the kitchen.

What it really comes down to is that you’re insane. You’ve fabricated an entirely false story in your head, and it ruined your entire day.
